First off, the newspaper gets the date of the show wrong, I wonder how many people will show up tonight to an empty stadium?
The bleachers were not done so we sat looking into the sun for the first two units.
When they only charge two bucks for a brat you shouldn't expect to much and I was right. Even the mustard was runny.
The crowd seemed quite elderly, another sign the young in Racine have no interest in drum corps.
I am not going to list scores, it's pointless, there were only six units in 3 catergories, not much for the ticket price.
First off, Kiltie brass group (7) to play Bach for all former members, my thought; "If that's the best you got, it's going to be a long night"
Kiltie lead sop playing "Star Spangled Banner" started in wrong key, restarted after 3-4 notes.
Racine Scouts - Painfully small 7-9 horns. They tried hard and their guard was the best section of the corp.
Capitol Sound - Drum line was very clean considering their age and it's still early in the season. I liked their show, uniforms were pretty generic.
Troopers - Biggest ovations of the night from the crowd incluuding yours truly. If I only agree with LC on one thing it's this corp is for real. They may not win DCI this year or next but if they can keep it together, they will be contenders. I would not be surprised to see them in the final 12. PS Crowd went apesh*t for the sunburst. One equipment failure when a snare fell from it's carrier but player recovered within 3 bars. Crowd cheered his efforts.
Drum Major Mark Crimm easily wins best of show.
Pioneer - Guard uniforms were cute. Show lacked punch. Too Irish yet the guard only did about three steps of an Irish jig? As a Div 2 corp they would be near the top, as a Div 1, sorry, not this year.
Madison Scouts - Guard did some fantastic spins, timing their catches well to the music but those uniforms!!!!!! NOT. Percussion section was nice and tight, lead snare in good control of the section. Horn line was coming along, they try some pretty neat stuff, mello playing while being carried flat on his back, horn line spread around entire circumfrence of the field. These kids are not getting the scores they deserve. They have nothing to be ashamed of.
Kilties - Smaller than I expected. I counted 29 horns, 10 guard. I hope all those elderly parents of junior Kilts weren't too disappointed. Fraked solos by El Guapo and Little Jarosz. I do like the fact they still use an honor guard. The mello section was quite young, they should be marching with the Chrome Domes. That was the worst arraingment of Syne I have ever heard. Looked like HDIC was going to have a stroke when he tried (not to well) to hit the high note at the end.
No finale, just call out the DM's for scores. By then stands had emptied out.
