Nice touch

Noticed driving by the Bozo Roach Motel last night that there was an old rust bucket of a car for sale out front. You know the type, big old boat with the windows cover with writing "good runner" etc, etc.
Really touched of the landscape, fer sure.

For those of you who do not know. This is a cheap, single story ex-Holiday Inn parked on what could be a very attractive setting allong Root River by the Horlick Dam. Of course when Motel management allows people to gut fish on their property it doesn't do much for the atmosphere.

Trucks & Trains

Is it just me or have Semi's taken over the roads? Here in Wisconsin they seem to think no one else is driving. Illinois, Indiana and many other states have lane restrictions on big rigs. ie on a three lane road, trucks are limitied to the right two lanes. In Wisconsin they can run side by side filling all lanes and slowing down the traffic flow. It's high time the DMV puts limits on truck lanes and ENFORCES them. Which brings up another point. You cannot try to tell me it is more effiecient to run hundreds of trucks down the road than it is to run a long freight train. It's time to use the rails rather than the concrete.
There is a big push right now to run a light passenger rail line from Milwaukee to Chicago, perhaps extending the Metra line up from Kenosha.
Just how short is the memory in this country anyway? Up until Jan of 1963 we were part of one of the best and fastest commuter lines anywhere, anytime, The North Shore. It was allowed to die because people would rather drive cars. Now some brainless idiots want to recreate what we once had. How many billions will that cost? How long will it survive? No one seems to want those answers.

From SoundMachine comes this post.
"The M.O.B. camp on March 10th in West Allis, WI was a success with more new members signing on. Kenny Norman worked the brass line on some of his tasty arrangements such as Basin Street Blues, Floatin' Down To Cotton Town, Rockabye Your Baby With a Dixie Melody and the Count Basie/Neil Hefti chart Splanky. This musical program is shaping up to be very exciting and certainly a crowd pleaser. Details on the next camp to follow. All are welcome to stop by and sit in with Chicago's newest all-age drum corps, The Men of Brass."

I may just have to give this group a listen. I haven't heard a corp play "Rockabye" since Madison did it in 66 or 67.

Embarass and insult

That's what a certain "all age" corp did on Sat in Chicago. They embarrassed themselves and insulted the good people who paid for their expenses.
There is NO WAY a so called professional organization should show up not in full uniform and not at full strength. You can not make me believe there is a legitimate excuse to march a parade in jeans. What has your uniform committee been doing all winter?
As far as not even bothering to show up, that just shows a total lack of commitment. Parades serve two purposes, raising funds and public relations. You guys failed on both counts.

review

After an absolutely misserable commute in rush hour Chicago traffic last Friday my wife and I finnaly made it back to good old Wisconsin and we were both hungry. Along I-94 in Kenosha county just north of Hwy fifty is a place called Little Europe. From the outside it didn't look like much but sometime a jewel is to be found hiding. Such is this place. Run by an immigrant from Eastern Europe, the place specializes in Chech, Bohemian, and German type foods. The food and service was great, on a par with much more famous places like Mader's. They had a good selection of imported beers. (i was driving so coffee for me).

I would recommend this place to anyone trveling the interstate.

You bozos driving up from Illinois might want to try it instead of the normal Kiltie Kussine.

Way to go

It seems the Kingsmen Alumni from out on the left coast has it right and others in a more central location have lost or never really had it right.
The Kingsmen Alumni organized and are raising monies for the purpose of resurrecting the Kingsmen as a DCI junior corps. I seem to recall a racine based group that touted they were doing the same thing. I seem to remember donation jars in local stores stating that same thing.
Where is the money?
Where is the junior corp?

More power to the Kingsmen. I hope they have the integrity to succeed.

bigbluekiltie blues

Seems I ruffled a few feathers on bigbluekiltie over at soundmachine. He thinks I walk in lock step with "Ren & Stimpy"
In a PM he suggested I ask other Bozos about the Ken Norman matter. To be fair I have edited my post on the matter until I have more facts. However I doubt I will use the resources he suggests for my interogation.

Here's a thought

How about these big box home improvement stores not worry about having young girls in frilly blouses at the cash registers and instead stock some wood that is good for something other than a bonfire.
